Erbaut auf dem Gelände eines Renaissance-Palastes, erhält die Convento Congregados Genehmigung D. Pedro II für den Bau in 1697. Ihr Projekt vergeben João Antunes, gleichen Autor der Kirche von Santa Engracia in Lissabon, ist eine der Beispiele, die den italienischen Einfluss im portugiesischen Barock des 16. Jahrhunderts widerspiegeln.

Wies auf die Bedeutung und gutes künstlerisches Merkmal der Verordnung Fliesenplatten und Wände, die die Treppe in dem ersten Stock des Klosters begleiten, in der Schule des Bernardes zurückzuführen.
