The Church of St. Nicholas was built in the twelfth century, after several rebuilding suffered its most important change as early as the 70's of the eighteenth century due to the earthquake of 1755.
The church has an organ installed after the earthquake of 1755. The first half of the eighteenth century was the work of the workshop of Antonio Xavier Machado Cerveira and the mechanism of the second half of the same century was the work of Bento Fontanes. It was restored in the 19th century and recovered in 2010.
The Parish Church of São Nicolau and São Julião is located in Baixa Lisboeta between S. Nicolau street, Prata street and Rua dos Douradores.
The Church is characterized by its unique nave with the ceiling decorated with remarkable paintings by the very renowned Pedro Alexandrino, where the cardinal virtues are represented: Faith, Hope and Charity.
The interior of the Church is equally rich, presenting some elements of other convents, such as reliquaries and gilded carving.
