Chosen as a favourite by President Getúlio Vargas, who played golf there in the 30s, Itanhangá is one of the best golf courses in Brazil. According to the American magazine Golf Digest it is ranked amongst the hundred best courses in the world outside the USA. It is also the only one with 27 holes in Rio de Janeiro State.
The course is well located in Barra da Tijuca, one of the fastest growing neighbourhoods in the city. From the course, there is a privileged view of Pedra da Gávea and Tijuca Forest, two of Rio de Janeiro’s most beautiful postcard views. Itanhangá is also famous for its Golf School, which is active in promoting junior golf. The club is restricted to members and their guests; tourists may request a previous playing authorization by e-mail.
