In the terreiro of the Baluarte de San José until the third quarter of the eighteenth century, we do not know what structures there will have existed.
We know only that there was built a Fine Crockery Factory, owned by Luis Freme da Roza, who worked approximately from 1774 to 1806.
In the second half of the 19th century, José Rodrigues Tocha (1817-1893), father of Ing. José Rodrigues Tocha (1850-1923), taking advantage, possibly, of the existing property, there he built the first steam grinding factory of all el, Alentejo, which supplied dry bread and fodder to troops quartered and passing through the region, for a series of years (1859-1874).

At the end of the 19th century, the building was transformed to operate as a cork factory, which at an unknown date burned down and was left in ruins.
In the last decades of the 19th century there was a pottery operation, where Caetano da Conceição (the Alfacinha), learned to work.
And in the first decades of the twentieth century there was a hunting workshop. And in the non-built area the popular festivities of the city were held.
The situation of ruin of the property was aggravated, and remained until recently, when it was decided to rehabilitate and restore the monument, transforming it into a hotel unit.
As for the place name "Patio de los Solares", we do not completely know its origin, because in this space, at least there is no bibliography or written sources that reveal it, they were never "Solar", only factories!
