La comunità straniera dissidente organizzata nel 1847 per legittimare la loro religione, poiché fino ad allora non avevano una legge che avallasse la costruzione di templi non cattolici, essendo costretti a celebrare le loro sette in luoghi privati. Nel 1865, la nuova legge che consente la celebrazione di culti non cattolici.
È un edificio pittoresco con linee di ispirazione britannica e costituisce una ragione caratteristica del centro di Valparaiso.
